Joan is Okay

“COVID-19, CO for corona, VI for virus, and D for disease, 19 for the year that the disease appeared.”
It wasn’t until reading this that I learned why it was called COVID.
Since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic I’ve been largely against work about the pandemic. While ‘Joan Is Okay’ is about an ICU doctor and set against the backdrop of the aforementioned pandemic, it’s not about a it. It’s about family and grief and neighbors and identity and beliefs and so much else. It does comment on public health and that’s fine because, hey, that’s what Weike Wang had a PhD in.
